5 Qikiqtaaluk communities can have their well being centres quickly shut within the new yr, says the Nunavut authorities’s Well being Division.

Arctic Bay’s well being centre can be closed from Jan. 4 to 10, Igloolik’s from Jan. 20 to Feb. 28, Kinngait’s from Jan. 25 to Feb. 28, Pond Inlet’s from Jan. 9 to Jan. 30 and Resolute Bay from Jan 1 to six and Jan. 12 to twenty-eight, in accordance with a Friday press launch from spokesperson Danarae Sommerville.

“The closures are a results of problem in securing aid workers attributable to a nationwide scarcity of healthcare professionals,” Sommerville wrote.

Sommerville stated that the division is “aggressively pursuing recruitment efforts” to get the well being centres again up and operating.

Whereas these well being centres are closed, Sommerville stated the division will bridge the hole by offering digital well being service, fly-in clinics and paramedic providers.

If residents in Arctic Bay, Igloolik, Pond Inlet, Kinngait and Resolute Bay name the well being centre whereas it’s closed, their name could be rerouted to a different group, Sommerville stated, asking that residents not hold up the telephone if they’re on maintain.

If there’s a life-threatening incident, paramedics will be capable of present emergency care, she stated.
